MEM (with NEAA, L-glutamine, Phenol red; w/o HEPES)
Medium 199 (M199) was originally designed for the cultivation of chicken embryo fibroblasts, and is currently widely used in the cultivation of various animal cells, including non-mammalian animal cells. Compared with other basal media, M199 contains some unique ingredients, including adenine, adenosine, hypoxanthine, thymine and other vitamins. Different balanced salt ingredients can be used. For example, Earle's salt is suitable for CO2 environment, while Hank's Salt is suitable for non-CO2 environments. M199 is especially suitable for the cultivation of non-transformed cells, and is also commonly used for the cultivation of virology, rat pancreatic epithelial cells and mouse lens tissue.
