HBSS with Phenol Red; w/o Calcium, Magnesium
Hanks Balanced Salt Solution (HBSS) is the most common salt solution or phosphate buffers used in cell separation or culture. It has the functions of maintaining osmotic pressure, maintaining pH stability, and providing simple nutrition. Therefore, it can be used for rinsing tissue blocks, organs or cells in in vitro experiments; transport of cells or tissues, preparation of reagents for cell culture and as a diluent for cell counting, etc.
One of the main differences between Hank's and D-Hank's, that it does not contain calcium and magnesium ions, so D-Hank's can be used to formuLate trypsin digests (calcium and magnesium ions inhibit trypsin activity); and Phenol red in the buffer acts as a pH indicator.
This product is sterilized by 0.1um filter, pH 7.2-7.5@25°C, and it contains:
D-glucose (1000mg/mL; 5.55mM)
KCl (400mg/mL; 5.36mM)
KH2PO4 (60mg/mL; 0.44mM)
NaCl (8000mg/mL; 137mM)
NaHCO3 (350mg/mL; 4.17mM)
Na2HPO4•12H2O (121mg/mL; .34mM)
Phenol Red (10mg/mL;0.028mM)
and, it does not contain calcium & magnesium ions
