Fibrinogen-binding Peptide
Using the anticomplementarity hypothesis, a peptide mimic of the vitronectin binding site on the platelet fibrinogen receptor was designed. The resulting pentapeptide EHIPA binds fibrinogen and inhibits both platelet aggregation and the adhesion of platelets to fibrinogen and vitronectin. EHIPA therefore has the potential of being used as an antithrombotic agent.
