Dermaseptin I
Dermaseptin was originally isolated from skin extracts of the South American arboreal frog, Phyllomedusa sauvagei. The strongly basic, nonhemolytic compound is the first vertebrate peptide that shows highly potent antimicrobial activity against pathogenic fungi at micromolar concentration. With a potentially amphiphatic ?-helix structure, dermaseptin probably acts by membrane permeabilization.
