Alcian Blue Acetic Acid stain solution [0.5%] can dye the mast cell cytoplasm into blue-green by combining with heparin. In the mature mast cell cytoplasm, it sometimes appears granular, and the contrast is clearer after using nuclear fast red to stain the cell nucleus. It can also be combined with safranin to distinguish between immature mast cells and mature mast cells, and can also be used to identify chondrocytes.
